This policy explains what information iGuard ("we", "us") collects when you use the iGuard mobile and web applications and the iGuard vehicle-security service, how we use it, and the choices you have. We comply with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and applicable data-protection laws.
Information we collect
Account information — your name, email address and phone number, used to create and secure your account and to contact you about your vehicle.
Vehicle location and telematics — the GPS position, movement, ignition and sensor status reported by the iGuard device fitted to your vehicle. This is the core function of the service: it lets you (and only you) see and control your vehicle.
Device identifiers — an identifier for your phone used to deliver push notifications (for example alerts when your vehicle is moved).
Emergency contacts — names and phone numbers you choose to add, used only to reach those people in an emergency you initiate.
Diagnostics — crash reports and basic app diagnostics, used to keep the app reliable.
How we use it
To provide the service: showing your vehicle's location and status, sending alerts, and carrying out commands you issue (arm, disarm, immobilise).
To secure your account and prevent unauthorised access.
To improve reliability through crash and error diagnostics.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Sharing
We share information only where needed to run the service or where the law requires it:
Infrastructure providers that host our systems (e.g. cloud hosting and push-notification delivery), bound by their own security commitments.
If you use the panic / emergency-alert feature, your vehicle's description and last known location are shared with the emergency contacts you have nominated in the app.
Law enforcement or authorities where we are legally obliged to do so.
Retention
Location history and trip data are kept for limited periods needed to provide the service, after which they are automatically deleted. Account information is kept while your account is active. Incident records relating to security events may be retained longer where required for legal or insurance purposes.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is authenticated and role-restricted, and vehicle commands can only be issued from your authenticated account.
Your choices and rights
You can access, correct or delete your account information by contacting us.
You can disable push notifications in your phone's settings.
Under POPIA you may object to processing, request deletion, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Children
The service is intended for vehicle owners and drivers and is not directed at children.
